Campground ADA Renovations

About This Project

The Department of Land and Natural Resources has entrusted OMIZU Architecture with completing design for improvements to campground facilities at Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area on Hawaiʻi Island. ʻA’-frame structures strategically placed along the Hapuna area campground were renovated and made ADA compliant. Multiple restrooms which included shower facilities were reconfigured to be fully ADA compliant. This involved major plumbing scope, selection of durable fixtures, replacement of doors and door hardware, and improvements to walkways on approach. The large ʻAʻ-frame structure consistng of full community-use kitchen was also fully renovated. ADA counter tops, kitchen island, and plumbing fixtures were designed to be accessible by users to this wonderful recreation site along the Kona coastline. In addition a new BBQ station was designed. A secured PV and power panel closet was also designed as part of the Stateʻs sustainability goals for energy conservation.
