About This Project

The State of Hawaiʻi DOT-Airports Division has always placed emphasis on security and safety for travellers and kamaʻaina alike through Daniel K. Inouye Honolulu International Airport. In order to intelligently build-in redundancy to the State operated control of ramp operations, on the tarmac of HNLʻs secure airport operations areas, a Control space was developed by Omizu Architecture to fulfill this need. The potential for a natural disaster leading to possible damage to the current Ramp Control location was the impetus for the design and completion of this project. The new protected and secured space which is fully operational, is also utilized as a secondary ramp control training space for the Stateʻs highly skilled ramp traffic controllers. State-of-the-art technology, space planning, and user sensitivity played a major role in designing this ultra unique space for the Department of Transportation.
