Public Library R + M

The Kaimuki Public Library is an education fixture within the historic community. Tasked with completing HVAC renovations as well as maintaining the historic appearance of frontage, was a challenge. Limited budget, with limited scope, allowed the design team to focus on the specific functional aspects of improving the needs of the Libraryʻs interior conditions, while maintaining the exterior aesthetic. Massive new cooling towers were erected and an enclosure shielded by historically aesthetic “breezeblock” was designed. Interior ceilings were architecturally improved while replacing all split-A/C units above ceilings. Condensor units on the exterior were replaced, shielded by exterior building panelling and secured by new durable fencing/gate access. All have improved the Library from a functional and aesthetic standpoint.
