At the heart of Makiki valley, the Division of Forestry and Wildlife takes tremendous pride in propagating native plant species both, indigenous and endemic to Hawaii. DLNR botanists utilize an outdated lightweight nursery structure to grow plant species from seeds through maturation, transferring them throughout forested State managed lands when ready. An extensive study, complete with multiple government agency collaborations have planted the way for a far overdue new pre-engineered greenhouse structure sited specifically for improved access, function, and to continue the important work of sustaining Hawaii’s natural habitats.
