A Safe Place to Play

Kuhio Homes and Kuhio Park Terrace is a public housing community within Honolulu’s urban core that had no updated playground for the area’s large population of young families.  Layout, design, fundraising and awareness became a community effort led by individuals from Island Recreation, PACT Family Center, Aloha United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Kuhio Homes/Kuhio Park Terrace Associations, and the State of Hawaii.  The effort for the community and by the community was the key factor in guiding the project along. A safe playground tirelessly labored over by the community has brought hope, joy, and pride in to a humble setting.
